In line with Vedanta's philosophy of care and community welfare, IOB is providing relief to the vulnerable and most needy sections of society who have been harshly impacted by the pandemic and have faced significant disruption in their livelihoods.
CM's Relief Fund to Goa and Karnataka
Vedanta Iron Ore Business (IOB) contributed Rs. 1 crore each to Goa and Karnataka State COVID-19 relief fund as part of its endeavour to join ranks with the Government of Goa and Karnataka to combat the widespread outbreak of deadly COVID-19. Hon'ble Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant and Hon'ble Chief Minister of Karnataka, Shri B.S Yediyurappa applauded Vedanta's contribution for the welfare of the community. To make a humble contribution to the Government's efforts in mitigating the crisis, employees of Sesa Goa Iron Ore have furthered their one-day salary to fight the pandemic.
Sanitization & fumigation
With the objective to protect everyone from the pandemic, Vedanta Sesa Goa Iron Ore carried out sanitation
and fumigation drive at public places such as police stations, police outposts, health centers,
marketplaces etc. have been done across Goa, Chitradurga - Karnataka, Vizag & Dodamarg - Maharashtra. To
ensure safety & hygiene of students appearing for SSC exams at Navelim and Amona High Schools, Vedanta -
VAB conducted sanitization of examination centres, provided masks and sanitizers to all students appearing
for the exams at these centres.
Distributions of PPE's, disinfectants, ICU cots, drone camera etc to fight COVID-19
To meet the need for hygiene products, IOB provided 5000 hand gloves, 10200 + face masks , 750 personal protection kits, 1500 sanitizer bottles, 580 lts of sanitizer to medical hospitals, health units, police stations, communities, Government offices , District administration across the state of Goa, Chitradurga "Karnataka, Dodamarg Maharashtra, & Vizag. 20 full body suits supplied to Goa fire department. Need based ambulance services have been provided to the District Administration of Goa, Chitradurga, Jharkhand and Vizag to stay prepared in these circumstances. 2600 three layered cloth masks were distributed to police officers, health workers and the community people across Chitradurga district that were handmade by local SHG women over the course of two weeks.
For better preparedness in this pandemic, IOB handed over 10 ICU cots and 10 Multi- Para Monitor to the District Administration of Chitradurga to get these units installed at the COVID Ã¢â‚¬â€œ 19 Relief District Hospital. To help keep a close track of the movement of the people in Chitradurga district, Vedanta Iron Ore Business Karnataka provided a drone camera along with tablet is provided to the Office of Superintendent of Police.
20 Electric water dispensers to District Disaster Management Authority at the Office of District Magistrate, South-Goa. These will be used at ESI Covid Hospital, Margao and other medical establishments which are used to treat and quarantine suspected Covid - 19 cases so as to benefit all of those who are working at these facilities, especially the medical staff. Further, handed over a refrigerator at Dodamarg Check Post to aid the frontline warriors in battle against Covid -19.

Distribution of food packets to the vulnerable sections of the society
To be prepared to fight the pandemic, Vedanta Sesa Goa Iron Ore provided over 8789 essential groceries to vulnerable groups benefitting over 44000 people across Goa , Chitradurga - Karnataka, Vizag & Dodamarg Maharashtra. The Company is also working closely with local administrations across Goa, Karnataka, Vizag and Chitradurga to provide items for people in distress.
Provision of shelter and cooked meals to migrant labourers
Iron Ore Business provided Shelter home facility at Codli mines has been provided to the stranded migrant labourer. These labourers were prevented from leaving the state in this pandemic where they could have been infected with Coronavirus. These migrants were provided shelter, cooked food, and hygiene products to stay safe and healthy.
Specific Initiatives for elderly and children
The Company has also initiated programmes to aid vulnerable sections of citizens during the nationwide pandemic. Iron Ore Business has extended support to children and senior citizens by sending food supplies and sanitizers in Goa. Vedanta Sesa Goa Iron joined hands with Institute of Public Assistance (Provedoria), Government of Goa to handover hand sanitizers to elderly people. Provedoria manages 10 old age homes across the State of Goa and the initiative of Vedanta Sesa Goa Iron Ore is aimed to ensure the safety of elderly citizens during this COVID-19 pandemic as the elderly are particularly at risk.
During these challenging times when the entire world is facing unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Vedanta Sesa Iron Ore is working towards extending support to the communities and all other stakeholders to battle against this difficult situation through all possible means in Goa, Karnataka and Jharkhand respectively.
"Passion to Serve": Employee Voluntarism initiatives
Vedanta Sesa Goa Iron Ore employees have voluntarily come forward to help the community in various ways to combat Covid 19. In the spirit of employee volunteerism Mr.Nand Bhatt, Chief Security Officer VAB along with other colleagues and friends volunteered to help Goa Sikh Youth. Through Goa Sikh Youth they have provided essential food groceries to the migrant labourers stranded at Railway Stations and some project sites at Goa. Around 144 volunteers participated in this and raised fund around Rs 1,40,000/- which was used to buy groceries to needy people. Over 1000 mineral drinking water bottles provided to Old Goa Police station. A group of around 10 employees have come forward and distributed groceries and dry ration to needy people. Also cooked food was provided at door steps of the daily wage earner, slum dwellers at Amona village. Vedanta - VGCB employees distributed essential groceries and dry ration to needy people of Kotaveedhi and Chilakapeta benefitting over 160 families.
