Run for Zero Hunger at the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon 2022!

By Team Vedanta

Someone wise rightly said, I don't run to add days to my life, I run to add life to my days. If you're looking for motivation to start running, we have one for you - Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon 2022 (#VDHM2022), an international elite label road race with a humongous USD 280,000 prize money, taking place on Sunday, October 16, 2022. It's not your regular marathon, it is one of the biggest fundraising sporting events across the globe. And the cause this year is #RunForZeroHunger.

A little context
A great sporting event has the power to not only influence masses into picking up the sport but to go beyond and bring about a positive change in the society. And that’s what the Delhi Half Marathon (DHM) has been doing since its inception in 2005. Now, DHM has entered its 17th year with Vedanta as the title sponsor for the next five years.

What’s #RunForZeroHunger all about?
According to the World Food Programme, over 828 million people go to bed hungry every night. The Government of India launched an initiative in 2017 to curb this dire situation – The Zero Hunger Programme, wherein the government intends to eradicate all the hunger issues by the end of 2030. We, at Vedanta, share the same mission as part of our commitment to nation- building.

How is Vedanta helping make an impact?
Vedanta has pledged 1 million meals through #RunForZeroHunger. For every kilometer clocked by the runners, Vedanta has pledged one nutritious meal to a child in need through its flagship social impact initiative, Project Nand Ghar.

Vedanta’s association with the Delhi Half Marathon comes in line with its ESG commitments. Aimed at eradicating malnutrition from the country, Vedanta's #RunForZeroHunger is a mass movement to bring people together to eradicate malnutrition and make sure that no child goes to bed hungry, where every step taken by the participants would play a big role in realizing our goal of pledging 1 million meals through the run.

The half marathon also coincides with World Food Day which marks the founding anniversary of the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation. It not only celebrates the gift of food but also spreads awareness about those who struggle to get even one meal in a day, which is in line with what Vedanta stands for with the #RunForZeroHunger drive.

Nutrition and fitness are at the core of our philosophy. Vedanta's flagship project, Nand Ghar, is the dream project of Chairman Mr. Anil Agarwal where he envisions a world where no child goes to bed hungry. The project aims to transform the lives of 7 crore children and 2 crore women across 13.7 lakh Anganwadis by providing them holistic development opportunities. The project intends to strengthen Anganwadi Centers by focusing on health, nutrition, preschool education, women empowerment, community involvement for women, and child development.

Wear your gears and get running!
The marathon is an eagerly awaited sporting event for Delhi. The enthusiasm to return to the track is sky-high as it’s happening after two long years of Covid. This year, we are hoping for people to join in large numbers in the spirit of health and fitness. The marathon becomes a platform for more and more people to contribute towards combatting malnutrition and building a healthier India. We hope to see many like-minded individuals and organizations join us in our mission of eradicating malnutrition and be part of this national movement as they #RunForZeroHunger.
