Vedanta Powers the Future with AI, IoT, and Automation

Team Vedanta

India’s industrial and energy sectors are undergoing a profound transformation—one driven not just by the shift to renewables or resource efficiency, but by the integration of intelligent technologies that enable faster, smarter, and more sustainable operations. As the world moves towards net-zero and next-gen manufacturing, digital innovation is emerging as a critical lever for resilience, competitiveness, and growth.

At the forefront of this transformation is Vedanta Limited, India’s leading producer of critical minerals, energy transition metals, power and technology conglomerate. Across its businesses, Vedanta is harnessing Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), and other advanced digital solutions to reimagine operations. From predictive maintenance to autonomous monitoring and real-time decision-making, these technologies are no longer add-ons, they are integral to how the organisation runs today and scales for tomorrow.

Intelligent Energy: Smarter, Cleaner, More Resilient

AI and automation are rapidly redefining the clean energy landscape. At Vedanta, renewable energy operations are enhanced by advanced AI/ML models that analyze vast datasets to enable smart energy use, real-time interventions, and predictive maintenance, all contributing to lower costs, higher efficiency, and greater uptime.

At Hindustan Zinc, for example, AI-powered robotics are transforming solar panel maintenance by autonomously identifying faults, conducting minor repairs, and feeding data into central systems for swift troubleshooting. Similarly, computer vision systems monitor asset health continuously, offering insights that improve both performance and safety.

Digital twin technology is another powerful tool being deployed. By simulating real-world plant conditions, Vedanta’s engineers can test operational scenarios virtually, optimizing performance while minimizing risks, reducing resource consumption, and extending equipment life.

Operational Transformation Across the Value Chain

Beyond energy, Vedanta is embedding smart technologies across its value chain. AI- powered drones are now used at its Jamkhani coal operations for precision inspections, improving both safety and excavation efficiency. In underground zinc mines, real-time computer vision systems enhance worker safety and situational awareness.

Collaborations with deep-tech startups are accelerating this transformation. Through Vedanta Spark, the company is engaging with over 150 startups across more than 250 technology-driven projects. For instance, Vedanta’s partnership with Infinite Uptime has introduced AI-enabled vibration sensors to monitor rotating machinery, enabling predictive maintenance that helps avoid costly breakdowns and unplanned downtime.

Solutions from platforms like Nanoprecise and MachineMax are also enabling real- time monitoring of critical equipment across manufacturing units, enhancing asset performance and energy optimization. Following successful pilots, these are now being scaled enterprise-wide.

Through Innovation Cafés, Vedanta promotes digital literacy and fosters a culture of co-creation within the company and with the broader MSME ecosystem, helping vendors and partners adapt to emerging tech. By empowering employees with digital tools and insights, the company is embedding data-driven decision-making at every level.

A Future Built on Intelligence

AI, IoT, and related technologies are reshaping what’s possible across the industrial landscape. From smarter grid integration to predictive ESG analytics, these innovations are enabling agile, adaptive, and efficient operations. For Vedanta, they represent not just a path to operational excellence, but a future where sustainability, safety, and profitability move in tandem.
