Sesa Technical School, an Industrial Training Institute, was established in 1994. As a part of Sesa Goa’s ‘post-mine closure plans’, Sesa Technical School (STS) was established on an old iron ore mine in Sanquelim.

The prime objective of STS is to develop technical knowledge and to train the local youth in employment-oriented fields, so as to enhance their opportunities in securing jobs or becoming entrepreneurs.

STS students specialize in the trades of Machinist, Fitter, Electrician, and Instrument Mechanic.

This initiative aims to support higher education for the financially weaker sections of the society. The company has been continuously engaged in promoting quality education in its area of operation. It does so by providing assistance in terms of infrastructural development of educational institutes, supporting knowledge enhancement of students through guidance and awareness sessions, and providing financial assistance to underprivileged students of nearby communities. Through these initiatives, the company strives to bring about a positive change in the society and improvement in the lives of the people.

Under one such initiative, Value Added Business (VAB) launched ‘Utkarsh Scholarship Scheme’ in the year 2018 to provide financial assistance to the economically weak students to continue their higher education.

Community Medical Centre (CMC) & Mobile Health Unit (MHU) is a flagship project of Vedanta Limited since 2006. The objective is to improve the overall health quotient of our community by catering to their day-to-day basic health needs, while saving their time and money.

This project runs an Out Patient Department (OPD) which provides the basic medical facilities such as physician consultation and medicines free of cost. The CMC aims to make basic healthcare facilities accessible to the community near the company’s operational areas, and also make the same available to the remotest villages through Mobile Health Units.

Agriculture is considered as the backbone of the Indian Economy. High input cost and low returns, shortage of skilled manpower, and lack of interest in farming practices have demotivated the farmers of our country, including those in the state of Goa.

Under the project ‘Back to Farming’, farmers of the Maina-Navelim and Amona Villages in the Bicholim Taluka of Goa, are aided to rejuvenate fallow fields and boost agriculture and farming activities. Value Added Business provides agricultural inputs such as seeds, fertilisers, barbed wire, fencing, mechanised farming equipment, etc. to the farmers.

Various awareness sessions on government schemes, new farming techniques, expert consultancy services were organised as per the need of the community. The initiative is implemented through a partnership model with the local village panchayat, farmer groups and Zonal Agriculture Office of Government of Goa.

Project Alternative Livelihood Opportunity is based on watershed-based livelihood development. By careful analysis of both primary and secondary data, collected by conducting various surveys like PRA and Participatory Village Development Program (PVDP) in the project area by a senior multidisciplinary team of BAIF, the company planned to implement a holistic village-wise development programme for overall sustainable development of the villages in the area.

This is being achieved by creating awareness and implementing climate-resilient and sustainable practices in all the components of the programme.

Some farmers are not aware of upgraded technologies that can improve their farming. Alternative Livelihood Opportunity project aims to support farmers in various ways to improve their farming capacity by better training, exposure visits, better fertilisers, and use of sorted semen to breed cattle.
