"We learned how and why our bodies bleed when to visit a doctor, and what foods we need to eat to avoid anemia - like beet, spinach, and pulses. One volunteer also showed us how to use pads and where to dispose of them after using them - not down the toilet. We can now say that periods are normal and we are not afraid of them!"

"I am Arputharaj from Vadakku Silukkanpatti village. It is located 3 km radial distance from Sterlite copper-Vedanta ltd. Thoothukudi is a district is having only 5.2% forest coverage out of 33.0%. The climate conditions, less rainfall, most of the land is heavily degraded by “Seemai Karuvelam” (Prosopis Juliflora) an alien invasive species, Groundwater depletion, etc. playing a vital role in the less greenery in the district. Sterlite Copper has launched “Pasumai Thoothukudi” a 1 million Tree plantation project in and around Thoothukudi to enhance the Green cover of the Thoothukudi district. I am the first person in the district who volunteered to implement the project on my land. My land is partially occupied by environmental threatening species. The same was uprooted by the CSR team and planted native species such as Banyan Tree- Our national tree and Neem- A goddess species from the literature period. The entire plantation and maintenance are being taken care of by the Pasumai Thoothukudi team. I am Thanking Sterlite copper for the eradication of Invasive species, Plantation of Native species, and development of Palmyra – the state of the tree of Tamil Nadu by sowing its seeds. Other local implementation partners and I from the core villages were honored by Sterlite copper management during the One lakh tree plantation completion celebration. "

Arputharaj Pasumai Thoothukudi

"I am Babu from Srivaikundam Village in the Thoothukudi district. I was running my normal life and unexpectedly I was suffering from a Stroke. My entire family was shocked and I was admitted to a hospital. As per the Hospital statement, there was a need for payment of Rs.1.75 lacs for higher-level treatment or by bringing the Chief minister’s Comprehensive health insurance scheme card immediately. Sterlite copper acted immediately and arranged the Government’s Health Insurance card very quickly and therefore my operation was done successfully. And my entire family is thanking Dr.Kaligar Karunanithi – former Chief minister of Tamilnadu who is launching this health insurance scheme in July 2009. Also thanking our Honorable Chief Minister of Tamilnadu is increasing the eligibility criteria of the scheme from Rs.72,000.00 to Rs.1,20,000.00 as the annual income. My biggest thanks to the Sterlite copper Tamira e-Seva Thittam team for the bridging between the Government and community."
